Iím thinking of making a 1 to 2 gallon planted vase with a steampunk theme. I could do anywhere a super low tech stillwater setup to a more traditional filter-heat-CO2 setup but what to put in there...

I saw somewhere where the guy had mosses growing on pieces of bark that he then pinned to his background. He did it so he could experiment with different kinds and move them if need be.

Easier then painting and safer is to get a food safe brushable epoxy or even 100% silicon. Then paint your ugly foam with it and cover with your choice of sand, fine gravel or any other terrarium...

Since I got my two tanks at my desk I have had my most productive day ever. I just stare at the calming plants and fish for 10-15 seconds and it helps me deal with the stress of high order counts.
