If you do decide to go with dirt. Do not go with cO2 you will have an outrageous algae problem. In a year or so you can get away with it. And you really should heavily plant it right from the get go....

I don't dose any thing just rely on the nutrients in the soil. It's miracle grow organic potting soil. I don't know what the potassium levels would be. I will look into it!

I am no expert on light levels by any means, but 120 watts over a 45 gallon seems like wayyyyyyy too much to me. I've got less than that on my 90gallon. Although, not all watts are made equal. Lol

Thanks! I like it too, I always mix a few different shades and sizes of gravel for just that reason. I like it to look natural not so artificial.
