Fastest growth possible and java fern are two things I wouldn't put together. I would stick with quick growing stem plants like rotala or elodea.

Fenbendazole does not kill snails at the correct dosage! I used it in my snail breeding tank to kill a hydra infestation. It only takes away tiny amount, half a pinch.

I cut down the existing roots and rubber band the plant to the wood. In a couple of months it will send out roots and attach itself. Cut away and discard the band.
