The plastic ring is more like a sleeve, it wraps around both the top of the ballast and the bottom, so it cannot be grounded by screw or by frame. Interesting why Coralife did this...

A leak fast enough to kill anyone would usually be so bad that you'd lose the entire tank contents within a few minutes after opening it.
Leaks can be eliminated with a good 12" crescent wrench.

Anyway, I checked on my tank today and found a TON of dead fish everywhere, in plants, on intake strainers, on the surface, etc. And the tank was hot....
