yea, i have a few females that do have saddles or are berried, but its just a certain few who have neither. also, whats the stripe down the middle? i noticed some have them and some dont.

i would keep the light on for 8 hours continuous, not positive but the weird lighting schedule might be messing with the plants photo periods.

i highly recommend the fluval spec v. its a 5 gallon, but its long and thin and could save you some space in a small dorm. comes with lighting and built in filter saves space and gives a cleaner...

for a 9' tank i would recommend a pressurized co2 system, the ray2 is fairly bright and would need sufficient co2 to promote plant growth while eliminating algae.
