The thread like material is actually like an insulator so no issue with that I would cut the casing back a little bit and put a bigger heat shrink over the entire cable and smaller on each individual...

I would wait at least 24 hours on the silicone and just 12 for the superglue, though I don't think that one matters to much and I'm no superglue expert

Yes. I understand it would be super overkill, but in my mind the inside 2x4's are pointless but I understand it's easier to assemble using this method. I typically just put the 2x4's on the corners...
