Cherry Shrimp with nice red color can be found as cheap as $1 per if you know where to look. In the long run you might wish you had bought the nicer ones.

I would setup a classic 10g with a small HOB and 1 sponge filter.

Here's one of my 10g on a budget and have 2 types of shrimp.

If it a bacteria infection it will kill the whole colony. Unless you remove all infected shrimp but still not guarantee it wont wipe out the rest.

No they don't breed true and yes they can cross with bad results depending if you mix colors. If it's RCS with Red Rilis then no big deal, but if you have yellow or blue rilis then bad idea.
