What is "SMS" I keep seeing on here?....tagging along doing substrate research. I've had good luck in the past using 50% flouralite and 50% playsand....with some pea gravel here and there for looks....

In my standard 55g I took several measurments and...
In my standard 55g I took several measurments and it averaged out to 3 inches of substrate, consisting of Flourite and playsand. 4 bags of flourite (20#?) and about 30# of playsand.
