It's been my observation that the powder blue dwarf gourami stays the smallest and is the most docile, the red ones are much more aggressive and can get a bit larger.

Finnex Ray 2 will save you a boatload over T5HO in the long run. Uses much less power, doesn't require expensive bulbs every 9 months, and runs cool rather than hot.

I think they need shallow water to breed. They are a great starter fish as they are practically unkillable but you will likely gravitate away from them after a year or two as they are just too active...

They not only keep the tank and plants clean but also serve to compensate for overfeeding. Unfortunately I've found that ramshorn snails tend to outcompete the prettier pond snails after a long while.

I just run an Aquaclear HoB as well as an Eheim canister on my tanks. The HoB removes the surface scum, is a good place for a bag of purigen, and provides backup filtration.

They love Hikari algae wafers and I find they do best if the tank has some of that benign green algae (beard?) that grows on rocks and wood under high light as it provides a constant food source....

That should be fine as long as you have good filtration, a few otos would be better than the pleco though and some would suggest a large school of one variety rather than two small competing schools....

The nice thing about cfl bulbs is that they don't wear out like t5ho bulbs. The t5ho's lose their growth ability after 9 months or so but I have a couple 13w cfl's in a 10g hood that have provided...

I prefer the classic filters, simpler operation and I think they are more durable as well. The quick connects on the lid of the ecco pro have leak issues for some people.
