I might be reading this wrong, but it sounds like you had the 40 neon, plus additonal fish in a 20g QT? That seems like a very crowded tank? maybe that is what killed them off?

I use it on my Fluval Edge. I had to stuff it full of media and use a pre-filter sponge to slow down the flow.

It's a decent filter....I probably wouldn't buy it again if I had a chance though. ...

You sure it wasn't a co2/fert imbalance? I find that people tend to be quick to blame the light sometimes
