Honestly I think the fish looks fine. Red Texas take a while to really look like anything special, and besides that's a lower grade one no matter how you dice it. I'm surprised it even changed colors...

I'd add a second filter tbh, better safe than sorry. Even if you can get away with the one filter....I prefer doing much higher turnover than necessary.

Its hard to say for sure how many species there are, most buces enter the trade and are labeled...

I'd just do EI ferts, maybe add some root tabs, and just wait it out. What probably happened is that the emersed growth died off while the new growth is getting going and converted to underwater...
