Your dempsey may handle the pleco for now, but eventually it will mature, and will not tolerate almost anything...

Well you should narrow down the reason behind the cloudiness of the water. The usual cause is usually only a few possibility's.
Purigen isn't what i would consider a fine water filter, or polisher....

You can figure out how much, and how often based on your average water readings. 25%-50% is the norm, but not necessarily necessary.
Every tank has it's own unique needs.

Surprised to see this old thread pop back up. Honestly no idea, i never tested the PH, and only used the idea for a month.
You really need to soak these things for awhile to get them to sink.

It's important in the sense it's sensible, and accurate feedback opposed to supporting something that isn't ok.
Also the tanks these days are not really up to par compared to those older tanks....
