They easily reach 9cm if not a little more adult, and need to be in schoal of at least 6, 10 is better. A lot of swimming space is needed. Not sure 54G corner is the best for them.

In my opinion it will be the same, tetras all have quite the same schol behavior. They get packed together under stress and loose when they feel confortable.

They will decompose and their decomposition will produce CO2. Problem is that it can also produce ammonia and their is a danger of algae bloom?...

I did notice it is easy to plant in a sand, the smallest the particles, the easier to make the plants hold.

Something not to small though some sands will not provide a good water circulation...
