Very cool! I haven't even fertilized the tank in a long time (as evidenced by the black hairy algae there on the left). It's almost to the surface now. Maybe if the stem gets a tad taller...

Thanks, I'll increase the distilled water. I did have Petoskey stones in the tank which are made of calcite, I believe. I don't know if they were the culprit but I took them out. No other decor...

Concerns/questions about rising pH

I have well water and high pH. Out of the tap it used to be around 8.2. I mix the tap water with about 25% distilled and it kept the tank reading fairly consistent at 8.0. Since I only have...

Thanks, this really helps. Maybe I'm creating too much work for myself. I could probably clean up with the turkey baster alone and let the plants do the rest.

I have 4 mystery snails and 4 cherry shrimp in a planted 10 gallon tank with Flourite...

If you hold them upside down, they will instinctively stick their foot out to right themselves. Then you can get a good look inside. But like I said, most of my snails would not cooperate, so I had...

That's probably the anus. They have to be pretty far out of their shell to get a good look and it will be more towards the center, right under the shell. The link in #3 has some good pics.

Maybe it would help if I showed a pic of what I'm talking about. This is what's left of my attempt to attach it to driftwood. There's no way I can tie these little bits onto anything. How do I...

Thanks, but can you be a bit more descriptive? I still don't understand how to attach a bunch of tiny bits that are drifting all over the tank. Do I bag them up or something?

How to care for susswassertang?

I got this thinking it was a foreground plant with roots. It's a wad of shredded leaves. I googled it for info and attempted to tie it to some driftwood. The whole wad fell apart as I was doing...

I'm told a few days to a few weeks. However, I have yet to see any eggs from all the mating that's been going on in my tank! Which is not a bad thing because I'm not ready to hatch a clutch right...

It isn't impossible to sex them. You just have to get a good enough look up inside the snail's shell. I've held them out of water to look, but they don't always cooperate. I've had better luck just...

Well, it's sort of established. I just upgraded from a 5g to a 10g. I used the same filter, plants & rocks, and most of the same tank water. The substrate is new (Flourite).
