I couldn't agree more. My point is simply that with all of that piping you have yourself quite a bit of head pressure and it will take ALOT of pump to push water through all of those holes. Good luck...

I did not. I simply picked the large pieces out. In hindsight, probably should have done so - I am still leeching large amounts of tannin ~3 months after setup. :)

Well, I suppose it "could" rot away, but it certainly looks an awful lot like it. Can you go back to the location where you found them/others? Take note of the terrain, trees, other vegetation, etc....
