Why is that crazy? It's good to spend a few extra dollars on a good quality product. I've used dennerle valves on a couple systems and now prefer those to the others.

If it were me, I'd just monitor the fish until I saw a symptom. Unless it is a type of fish with a predisposition for a certain type of disease or parasite, I'd hold off medicating.

Who says you can't have plants in there? I almost always throw in some floating plants like hornwort, myriophyllum, Java fern, java moss, etc. I feel the fish acclimate better and faster with plants....
