Never again?? Oh. That is a problem. I really want them in this tank, because it is my larger tank. Activated carbon won't make it safe for them?? I certainly would not have treated the tank if I...

I forgot other relevant info-
I dosed them with 0.3 mg for the 29 gal tank. I dissolved it into a small amount of water, and only poured the dissolved portion into the tank, leaving the solid stuff...

fenbendazole and nerites

I dosed my 29gal aquarium with fenbendazole because I had planaria (yuck!). I moved my nerites out of this aquarium prior to dosing because I heard they were sensitive. After I dosed, I waited 3...

Disappearing shrimp

So I set up a new 10 gal tank. After it had cycled, I caught what I could of my cherry shrimp colony in the big tank and moved it to this tank (about 10 shrimps). That night, I can only find 2...

Well, thanks for the info. Its good to know a bit more about the snail I bought. I know I shouldn't buy things I can't identify, but he looked neat. I will look up more online, but it sounds like...

Presuming it is a spixi snail- I bought it in-state! :) I don't mind it eating my ramshorns (I have lots). Will it bother my nerites? I can just keep it separate from them.

And my water is around...

Guess I will just have to keep an eye on him. He might do better in my big tank, which is 75% anubias and crypts. Less that I care about him munching in that tank.

Will they eat cherry shrimp or...

Hm, maybe. It looks like their shells are usually in a flat spiral, whereas this snail has the spiral that goes to one side and makes a point. Do Columbian Ramshorns have that shape as well?

What kind of snail is this?

So... I did the big fish store no-no yesterday of buying something ("Oh please can't we get that one? It looks so neat!") without knowing first what it was. It was the last random snail running...

I know where Curtis is! Believe it or not, we actually went there last summer. Family reunion :)

As far as your tank, I find it very hard to combat algae in low tech tanks because you basically...

Well, I will be interested to see what other people say, because I have almost the exact same thing going on. Its a 10gal tank, and I did not add any ferts, but otherwise the story is similar to...

Hey, I loved reading through your tank journal!! Probably especially because it is so similar to what I want to do- a 10 gal tank, low light, planted, with shrimps and cory habrosus.

But, you said...

Well, you certainly can put medium to high light on your tank, with low light plants and no CO2. The problem is that you are inviting algae growth by doing that.

Most of the beautiful carpets I...

m00se- I've heard of the Redfield ratio before. I always just thought it was the source of "too much phosphate causes algae" which I thought was a myth. Are you suggesting this isn't true? Or its...

Sorry. I am not explaining very well. The issue is not CO2, per se. The issue is constantly changing CO2 levels. When the tank consistently has a low level of CO2, the plants adapt to it. When you do...

Well, the concern with the water changes is the dissolved CO2 in the water. I've read some about this on Tom Barr's site. It was an older article, however. Perhaps he has changed his idea on it since...

balancing tank for no water changes

I've read about how water changes are bad for no CO2 setups, because they re-introduce CO2 to the tank, upsetting the balance that the plants have. But whenever I try to implement this in my tank,...
