What type of overflow? Even with a "sealed sump" if you use drain pipes your system has a direct pipe line to air to off gas. No way around it.

Why not have your peat in your sump? If you want to lower flow without really cutting back flow through, add a bypass line from the pump back to the sump. Use a gate valve for fine control

Look into a sump and a 1200gph pump, that would put you at roughly 700-800 gph depending on the pump and plumbing. Works out great and you have tons of adjustable flow at your hands

Watch out using that glass, it is very thin 3/32" if I recall. If you ever have your chambers at differently water levels it is likely to break or bust a seam on you. 1/4" is much safer

I have a 44 gallon Brute on gravity drain lines to my sump. Water is pumped using an off-shoot of the plumbing going back to the tank. 3 valves to turn and nice and quick.

I haven't seen anyone that has gone to a sump wish they hadn't. I love mine, and my pile of cannister filters in the corner is going to be growing more soon.

Yes it will work provide your drilled sections are not clogged and will flow the required amount. That said your third tank is going to get quite dirty because it is the last in line.
