I've set up a tank with MGOCPM that leeched ammonia for a couple weeks, then other tanks with the same dirt that didn't have any ammonia problems... so it really depends on your setup when you can...

I think it's perfect! Cat drinks water, top off with new water, bowl is getting constant small water changes... Granted, doesn't matter as much for a bowl, but is nice for a small tank.
