When the solenoid first opens the line has to be pressurized to the pressure set by the needle valve / regulator combo. Until the pressure is equalized the CO2 rushes into the low pressure tubing.

Pieces of pvc should be remarkably cheap at a home improvement store. You can also buy flexible pvc tubing if you wanted to make something out of that as well.
