havent done this in awhile, but if ammonia is going down, nitrite should be going up.

this process works faster if you have some old filter media to squeeze in the tank.

i must have a small leak also. my 5lb has only lasted me about a month at 2bps on mild planted 29g. i have a brand new aquatek regulator too. is it possible my hosing has gone bad?

+1 for fishless cycle. use ammonia and squeeze used filter media in new tank. test for nitrite and you know its cycling. wait till ammonia and nitrite have diminished and your set.
