The ebay seller agreed to put a grommet connector so I can make a water tight seal between the solenoid and the cord. Says in the listing that they will do it if you ask them.

I am not sure if it would work but if you buy all natural clay cat litter you could use that but it may not give you the same effect as the pottery clay. I have only used clay and pea pebbles.

I really like the idea of a canister plumed to the bulkhead holes. Would put ball valves in each of the bulkheads though that way it's easier to remove the hoses if needed.
