9 hours is a lot IMHO. I have a 110 gallon tank and all im running is a one Finnex ray 2 DS LED. And I'm growing some highlight plants including carpets. I only have my lights on for 6 hours total...

I like to get rid of stuff sitting on the substrate. First I dont like the look of it, but also I personally feel it leads to problems as it encourages the build up of excess organic matter.
