What about pool filter sand? Still too fine. The PFS I have is not that fine to me compared to the play sand I have in another tank but I am wondering what the opinions are about PFS and cories.

The mixing bowls won't do much besides keep in the heat from the lamp. You will either need lots of ventilation or just scrap the bowls altogether. I like the look of the bare par38 above my reef....

Check out the par data in the finnex forum. The Ray2 on a 12 long will be very high light. If you decide to go high tech it should be fine but the Ray might be better. It is a shallow tank.

I used diy CO2 for my 3G when i was cycling and would have gassed everything in there if i had livestock. I have switch back to flourish/metricide. Much easier to control and change up on the fly.
