I have had flourite in my 72 gallon for a long time. It used to let out a pyroclastic cloud every time I touched it. Now it isn't quite as bad. But I always used a diatom filter to clarify the water...

I wouldn't do a tank without one either. But you can get them a lot cheaper then that link that was provided. Try Ebay, just type in UV Sterilizer and they will come up. Shop around, prices vary...
