I 2nd a 30cm cube, and you can use your 12" fugeray easily putting you at the upper limit of low light. I have a Tom rapid canister and it works great for the price. The combo should be cheaper...

If your substrate is pure sand, I agree with Cories... Any species really. Small fish may become lunch for your betta and the quick swimming white clouds will scare any micro fish into hiding.

These little fish often get mislabeled from the distributor/supplier. Same thing happened to me from a very reputable fish store, ended up with 3 different rasboras and none are chili for sure.

Your tank could use a trim and replant the tops, mainly the S. Repens and A. Reineckii. This would eventually add plant mass which you are lacking. I would also recommend slowly increasing your CO2...
