This tank is a wierd shape...it's very deep at the bottom, but narrows at the top so it slopes away from you. It is 24"L x 19.5" deep which tapers to 15" at the top x 16" high. I figure its around 25...

I've done both...usually if you plant them very bunched the rooted stems are rather scarce...but if your looking to multiply then just clip the tops and replant. I like to keep the stems about a .5"...

As well as saving some water and using the old filter, I'd save a couple handfuls or so of the old substrate. Bacteria is mainly in your gravel and not the water. This will get your cycle going...
