Even offsetting them probably won't work. I have offset 24" bulbs in a 30" fixture and still have that problem.

Thanks for the one-two punch suggestion. After poring over the first 150 posts in that thread, I think that's what I'll do for all my tanks plus the maracyn treatment. I'll have to remove the moss...

The first picture resembles the siamensis in my tank while the second looks more like the stricta I wish I had.

I'm sure Seattle Aquarist is much more knowledgeable in such matters.

What should my target NO3 level be in a very lightly planted tank with sensitive shrimp to avoid cyano?

Edit: looks like 5 ppm. Time to recheck my dosing math.

What's causing it other than silicates in the pool filter sand? I'm running it lean with low light but it shouldn't be bottoming out on such a low plant load. It's primarily in the sand, though it...

First iteration was 1/2 the EI dose 1x/week, with only mini pellia in the tank.

Second was similar but with cyperus above a root tab and mini anubias plus the mini pellia.

This was to have...

Going nuclear on cyano bacteria

I have an 8g that's been infected apparently by cyano twice now. It's an uninhabited sand and rock tank with moss and cyperus. The latter has BBA that seems immune to H2O2.

My thought is to...

Do NOT go with a 100% H2O2 dip.

I'm still trying to find a solution for removing BBA from cyperus in a low light tank with sensitive moss. H2O2 from a syringe is not enough and I can't use...

It's not always a deficiency that causes problems. Some red plants turn green in the presence of too much nitrate; one, rotala macaranda, may stunt at levels above 20 ppm. EI levels can exceed...

I understand you mean that generally; I live in limestone country, so a Ca deficiency is unlikely and I happen to have MgSO4 on hand. How much would you recommend adding to a 29g? At WC or...

How much would dosing K2SO4 in the same amount as KNO3 raise GH?

My water is already 8 dGH so I don't use Booster. I've recently cut back on KNO3 by 25% to bring out the reds and just saw the...

I really don't want to be a downer but a child - or anyone - can drown in just 3" of water. It can and does happen. And little kids love to climb into things. Your wife is a wise woman.

If it...

If not using GH Booster, keep an eye out for possible K deficiency. You could always dose K2SO4 just to be safe.

If you reduce KNO3 to benefit red plants, you really should dose extra K that way.
