I have multiple 2215 running 2217 impellers for a couple of years now. No issue. Another added benefit in your case is that you can keep your pipes (2217 uses 17mm inflow)

Since you already have a 2215, another option is to buy a 2217 impeller and swap it out. That way you'll get the 2217 flow with just less media capacity.
