The answer is yes they do good so long as there are no plants in the way of the "cave" I have two electric yellow cichilids in my main tank only problem I have is they are picky about the cave area....

I use the dump method as I already know the LFS...

I use the dump method as I already know the LFS has the same levels as my own tanks. I test his tank before leaving with a new purchase.
