did this with my 20gal long tanks just november. Take out all but an inch of water and you should be fine. Keep the tank level and drive slow so it doesn't slosh about a bunch.

All it takes is one nibble... and then they find out shrimp are tasty tasty food. IMO at some point a nibble will occur whether or not they are exposed as juvies.

I have these shrimp in a tank with cardinals and a few tylos. I check the water parameters daily (out of paranoia mostly, I've only had them a week).
Everything checks out fine:

Depending on what kind of shrimp you have 24/7 lighting will stress them out too much IMO.

Leaf litter and Mosura Bioplus (any baby shrimp food) works well for me...

+1 to a lighting upgrade. Traditional "stock" tank hoods/lights do not put out the proper spectrum or enough light to keep even low light plans happy. This is most likely why you had the algae issues...
