I've found that it isn't really required to run any biofiltration specific media in moderately to heavily planted tanks, you're generally better off running all or almost all mechanical filtration...

I'd say 10-15 mins would easily kill them as thats how long I soak bba ridden hardscape/equipment and it usually not only turns the bba white but dissolves most of it.

If removing those bits of hardscape wont create a giant mess you might as well take them out then soak them in some diluted bleach, works much better and faster than either excel or h2o2.

iirc the top end of the normal ph test is around 7.5 and the bottom end of the high range is around 7.5 as well so it is reasonable to assume both tests aren't particularly accurate at their extremes...

I have no idea what conditions it was grown under before I got it, but all the new growth has much rounder leaves than what is normally seen in rotundifolia.
