I'm a bit late to the party, but I've only had one check valve that has lasted more than a few months for me and that's a Dennerle CO2 check valve. I've used brass Clippards, "stainless steel" valves...

I'm not sure there is such a thing, lol. What you're doing sounds fine to me. I do a 70% - 80% water change on my 75g every four or five days. They make everyone happy, fish and plants alike.

Updates..hmmmmm....Well, I have no recent pics but not much has changed. I have done a couple of major trims on the ferns since I last posted pics, but of course they grow back which is a good thing....

Unless, of course, your plants are in poor health due to a lack of either of those. In which case, an increase would help avoid algae by giving you healthier plants.

I like them also and the plants seem to as well. I switched from Giesemann Middays which were a bit too yellow for me. The greens seem to have a bit more pop with the Hagen which I like.

It's worth a try. It's an effective method as long as your canister can handle it as Wasser mentions above. I can't speak for an Eheim classic, but it has been working well with my Eheim 2075.
