I think fish in general are more intelligent than we give them credit for. Cichlids, especially, I've always thought seem to have pretty big personalities. I also enjoy curiosity and social...

Aesthetically a very nice looking tank; I think it will grow in well over the next several months.

I might add some regular Pennywort floating at the top. It makes for a good nutrient sponge early...

I don't think I can help with suggestions about wood, but a gravel and sand supply store would be a great place to source rocks. In fact, I got several big rocks and about a quarter of a 5 gallon...

Well, I think I've got the BGA licked! After five days of my new dosing regime and dosing Erythromycin, there is no sign a BGA whatsoever. Granted, it was pretty light to begin...

I had some Amanos once that would eat holes in some very healthy Glosso. Never had a problem with RCS, for whatever reason.

My guess is that they're just hungry. Try giving them some food made...

I'm not adding it for fish, but for the plants. No fish in the tank yet. I need to raise my tap water's KH to help prevent possible pH crash. 2 degrees I don't think would provide adequate buffering...

I tend to agree with the previous comment about not having enough plants. Algae is always an issue in a new set-up, but planting very heavily helps a lot from my experience. You will always have to...

My tap water is very soft, with a GH of 3 and a KH of 2. I've been adding GH booster and sodium bicarbonate to raise each to about 5 or 6 degrees.
