What I do for wood that won't sink is drill holes...

What I do for wood that won't sink is drill holes in it then zip tie it to eggcrate then bury the eggcrate in substrate and weigh down with rocks. That way you can move / rearange a little easier...

I have never got them going with the mesh sandwich technique. I would recommend SS mesh and fishing line.

They are not difficult to keep especially those 2 species. The females are not that blue color more a drab brown or grey. Most will eat flake and are not demanding as far as water parameters.
