It really depends on what you want to do with your scape. HC will grow low and carpet. HM will grow tall if you let it. I like both. I can't grow HC very well but HM is much easier.

in terms of light, i would just put an LED or CFL. sunlight is just too variable and hard to judge how much you are getting.

throw the black stuff out and the duckweed in trashcan IMO

Fluorite does not contain nutrients and you can't was it off. It has high CEC or cation exchange which can hold some nutrients you introduce by dosing the water and then it can be release/absorbed...

HC,dwarf baby tears will be difficult with your set up. usually require CO2 but some people can do it with dry start method first. Baby tears, pearl weed should do fine in your set up. Good luck...

I think the best substrate to grow stuff is ada aquasoil. it may break down a bit after a year or two but it makes growing stuff easy. Flourite,eco complete are okay and you can add root tabs.
