The Cobalt E-X-T filter has a separate pump that can be placed inside the tank, so it's extremely quiet. Many of the Eheims are also very quiet, especially the Classic series. Maybe an Eheim 2213?

It's a very good article. I've actually had Herotilapia multispinosa do what the article describes: attach fry by their heads to floating plants. It's a very interesting behavior.

Yep

Thanks for mentioning this. I was too lazy to do it. Funny how almost no one has adjusted their analysis to address archaea.

I love my Eheims, but haven't tried the Pro 3s.

I've got one Ecco, a bunch of Classics, including a 2217, and a 2126 and a 2028. I'd stay away from the Ecco line, but the others are great. ...

Here's some more articles to read. I'm curious about their inconsistency with Diana's advice, especially as to diffusers, in the first two articles. I'm not trying to argue, because Diana obviously...

I think it's supposed to be that way. The AC 70 has the same size motor and impeller shaft, but a larger impeller with more blades.

I've used a pair of cheap valves from eBay, with a short length of tubing between the two valves. It's functional, but not as nice the Eheim quick release valves.

I've gotten many of mine used off of eBay or craigslist. If that doesn't work, I agree on Kensfish.com.

I've got 2 40Bs, and have filtered them with a Cobalt E-X-T, an Eheim 2126, and an Eheim 2028. All worked great. (I bought the Eheims used, at reasonable prices.)

This is a good PSA. I usually find the biggest problem is in the intake hoses, especially where they connect to the canister or to any valves.

For an Eheim Classic, a reverse flush usually...

I don't think the plants will help with the oxygenation, since they won't be getting light. I'd lower the water level, to increase the amount of oxygen actually available to the fish. If you can get...

I think the sponges will serve as biomedia. Probably not as much surface area, but they'll work fine. Mattenfilters are entirely sponge, but they handle biofiltration.

Eheim Classics are dead quiet. The Cobalt EXT canister (about $100 at Ken's) has a separate pump, which you can place in the tank, so it's completely silent.
