DIY CO2 is cheap and really easy (mix sugar, yeast and some warm water), but it's not for everyone. I'd make sure you have some fast growing plants to suck up all nutrients that the algae might want.

when i had an outbreak i cut my photo period by a few hours, added excel, and an 2nd DIY. But i also did more frequent (and smaller) water changes and cut my ferts.

Hoboken Beer and Soda does refills. I'm sure you could ask them about buying a tank too. I know they do swaps, so if you do use them, I'd get a used tank.

i went from emersed to submersed growth 2x and lost both carpets. i had been using diy co2 and ferts. good luck, it's not as easy as I thought it was, but it does look good.

I second that. I've tried emersed growth twice. Both times I had the entire floor covered in my 5G. Filled it and within 3-4 weeks, had no HC... Had DIY CO2 and ferts. I've given up on HC.
