I just assembled a diy led for a standard 5 gallon too. 10 watts and pretty bright at the height I hang it at. 3 x cree xp-g + heatsink about the size of my palm. 13 watt cfl is fine though.

Look into Cree XM-Ls i've been thinking about using those, can get them imported from hong kong for around $9-10 each. comparable to XP-Gs at 3 amps, 20% more efficient at 1.3 amps.

I don't understand why there are schematics in DIY co2 that use more than 1 bottle. Just use one gal ocean spray as one poster suggested, and pull a hose through with pliers. I've used that design...
