Tropica recommends 6 hours for the first 21 days and then increase gradually depending on what you have going on there at that point.
I personally have always had good results with 4-2-4 schedule...

Drill a hole in the lid smaller in diameter than the tubing, cut the tubing at an angle and pull it through with pliers. No need for any "sealant".

It's actually pretty easy and fast once you get the hang of it.
You MUST use tweezers however, it also plants more easily in certain substrates.
