Fish are not showing any distress from CO2, nor have they ever done so. In fact, when I used to put new fish in there. I just leave the CO2 and lights off for a day, then turn it halfway the next day...

Don't worry about it. Otos aren't recommended as the first fish in the tank, as they are more fragile, but you aren't going to lose your biological filter.
