So I added a piece of wood to run the entire length of the tank. Then some wood filler to smooth it out. Painted black. Still waiting on lights.

I use a hydor inline atomizer with my eheim 2213. These work great, and the bubbles are reduced to a fine mist. I had a regular ceramic diffuser, and it just seemed like to much equipment in the tank.

Lava rocks are used all the time. Just make sure to clean before using. Personally I prefer the black colored lava rocks. Harder to find, but I think they look better then the red.

The smaller the tank the harder it is to maintain. Anything under 10 will be pretty time consuming. 20 and up will be easier, and less maintenance.
