I agreed it could be air caught in the filter. You also could have a clogged intake tube. I tend to find this happen where the hose meets the elbow piece. Have you tried back flushing the filter...

Yup

If you're in DC, this is a little unusual, I think. In the past, when DCWASA has switched to chlorine, it has done it for a shorter period of time. It really doesn't matter, however, as others have...

Here's an article on their benefits:

I'd be tempted to go with the 2236, but a 2234 should be adequate. (Like others, I prefer the Classic line, but the Eccos are okay.)

For what it's worth, in my experience the Classic series has better flow than the Ecco series. The Eccos seem to get clogged more easily.

Interestingly, you are only supposed to use certain spray...

I've used a pump on an Eheim 2015 (similar to a 2215). I took out the impeller and just use the external pump, on the input, to drive the water. Works great.

I'd be careful about using the pump...

I'll disagree. My understanding is that heat and moisture cause fish food to deteriorate over time. The fish food manufacturers I've spoken with recommend keeping it in a cool place in an airtight...

Cobalt

The Cobalt EXT filter is slightly more than 12 inches high, so if you have 12.5 inches clearance it would be a good choice. It does about 210 gph. The pump is separate from the body of the filter,...

My experience has been the same, with various corydoras, including the above, Green Lasers and sp. C123. I really don't think the corydoras eat many shrimplets and certainly don't eat adults. I've...

One canister that doesn't is the Cobalt EXT, because the pump is separate from the canister body and can be placed in or out of the tank, either on the intake or the output. Probably too big for an...

I agree about the air pumps.

As to heat, if you can heat water, I'd get bottles that can stand being warmed up, fill them with water, heat them in a pot of water, and put them in the tanks when...

Keyholes vs. Rainbows

You're right: they are similar in temperament. In my experience, Rainbows breed more readily. My keyholes lay eggs every few months, but the eggs always disappear. The rainbows, in contrast, do a...

I don't think they'll eat neon tetras. Mine don't eat similarly sized fish. They will gobble shrimp, but almost any fish that size will.

Rainbow cichlids are relatively peaceful, although they...

The Cobalt EXT is a great canister that is about $100 at Ken's. I'm also fond of Eheim Classics.. I have a Sun Sun and think it is fine, but a step below the others.
