I think you are absolutely correct about watching...

I think you are absolutely correct about watching how things react. I am sure the current "master" will tell you that watching the plants response is a much better idea then using the "invented" BPS...

My Betta does fine as well with shrimp, he may eat a baby or two, but for the most part my shrimp cultures thrive in my betta tank... I have found that it depends on the betta.

Honestly, I think gorilla glue would be absolutely perfect. I used it in a slate waterfall build and it is insanely strong. Also, once the gorilla glue dries, it is completely safe for use in water....

Not sure thats the best advice, depending on the brand and size of the tank. Im sure Bgallodoro would want new trim just to make it match the rest of the tanks, and on a 29 gal it may not bust...

Yeah, the one reason for the ammonia and not fish is that the levels in the tank are going to be toxic, you will be doing daily or EOD water changes on that tank now to keep those feeders alive...
