I had some ill-fated attempts with some CRS as well as your standard pond snail and a nerite. Neither lasted more than a week or two. I gave up after awhile. I didn't want to risk anything else.

Update...the betta died after several illnesses despite regular maintenance and care. The light I would consider as low...it grew plants just fine and is still doing so today.

I doubt it, unless you can notice other trauma around his mouth. I had a brichardi like that and he did just fine but looked a little odd.
