I can't +1 klibs enough on the flow. I said it in my post, but worth saying again. I think maybe dead spots just have the low O2, high concentration of organics BGA loves. Problem is once it gets...

Get ready for the crypt invasion...they spread like wildfire that way, in every tank I put them in. It's java fern that propagates from the leaves.

AZ here as well (Mesa). Where are you thinking of getting the rams? Also, are you worried about the Flag Fish and the shrimp? I do not think I would trust them.

I have 15 column tall tank which is a challenge for growing plants. When I had BGA it was growing (quickly) along the bottom. Like you, I found conflicting information on how to get rid of it. ...

If by stable you mean the same reading 24/7, I think it would be better to shoot for a high during the photoperiod and a low at night, to take respiration and O2 production into account. Otherwise,...

I had that problem and nothing, including plumber's tape, solved it. Then I went to Home Depot and spent about four bucks on a pack of thick rubber O-rings, replaced the one in my counter, and...

Hair algae is the devil. I agree with Philip above; and I'd add that you can pull clumps of it out by grabbing and kind of swirling your fingers around. The best way to get all of it out is, I've...

I've always used green cotton sewing thread. Works like a charm, and invisible in less than a week as the moss grows over it.

If you go with the clown pleco, you also need to have room for driftwood as clowns feed off of it. Spec may not be the best tank for a clown.

I used to use fluorescents on my 46 bow but got tired of changing them. Switched to finnex planted +, looks great and so far so good for the plants. Use them in other tanks too, with great results.

I'm not sure there is a better fish out there. I have kept a school of 15 or so for years in my 46 bowfront. Beautiful, hardy, great fish.

Emperors can be nasty, especially the territorial males. Perhaps they are keying in on the horizontal stripe on the neons. You may not solve this one beyond moving them out of the tank.

I'd go with apistos. Beautiful fish, small, but with that cichlid personality to them. And there are a great selection to choose from. Try apistogramma.com for species.
