It's quite strange and it does not work with the feedback we have from some users who grow red plants "red" and awesome tanks filled with plants with it. 10-20 Par would be very low light.

They will decompose and their decomposition will produce CO2. Problem is that it can also produce ammonia and their is a danger of algae bloom?...

I did notice it is easy to plant in a sand, the smallest the particles, the easier to make the plants hold.

Something not to small though some sands will not provide a good water circulation...
