Plants pearling their best just before lights go out?
I'm currently about 1 month in on this semi high tech tank.
It is a 29 gallon tank with about 40 separate stems of rotala rotundifolia, which isn't a very high plant mass for the time being.

Increasing photoperiod / light intensity to combat cyanobacteria?
So we all know that cyanobacteria, or blue green algae, isn't really algae. So we can theorize that it doesn't have the same relationship with light that algae does.

Thanks a lot Hoppy!
I just moved into a new house (in a whole new town) and haven't tested my tap water yet. I'll test for Nitrates later today.

Starting my first EI dry fert tank, questions
I have a pretty good understanding of the EI method, how it works, CO2, lights, and all that, I really just need to know if these are ALL of the fertilizers I need to buy:
KNO3 - Potassium Nitrate...

How much floramax do I need to cap dirt?
I've done dirt capped with PFS and play sand in many other tanks before, but since sand is so cheap I just buy huge bags and use what I need without worrying about cost.
However, I've never used a...

Everyone seems to have a different experience with SAEs. I bought a single one for my 30 gallon tank and he seems to have maxed out at about 3 inches and is very peaceful. He prefers to spend most...

Should I add ferts to my low tech 30g?
Because of work, life, and my 4 other tanks (which I recently tore all of them down), this 30 gallon has been a bit neglected. Now that my other tanks are gone, I'm going to refocus on this low tech...

Starting a blackwater tank, need help!
So I've been running multiple low tech planted tanks for a while and have recently acquired a 29 gallon tank that I would like to turn into a blackwater tank.

Yes, just the plastic part of the top rim is sheared in half.
Also, this tank doesn't have a crossbar support on top. As in, it never had one, not that it broke or anything.
The glass is 3/8"...

Bought a beat up 55g, is it salvagable?
I work in a pet store. One of the regulars came in today asking if I knew anyone that would want a 55 gallon tank he was looking to unload. We worked out a $25 price tag, and I said I would take...

DIY dome light / CFL mounting above the tank?
I've been using T5NOs and T8s on my low tech 30 gallon for a while, and I've been pretty happy with the growth I've seen.
Or, I was happy, until I bought a bayco clamp utility dome light from...

Dwarf Sag, Jungle Val, DONE. Need advice on a SUPER low tech tank.
I really do love the growth that I see in my dirted tanks.
What I don't love is having to uproot and replant runners (mainly jungle val) which sends the dirt flying all over my tank and lands in a...
