For small tanks, I think Eco Complete is the best substrate you can use. They say it's not fortified with nutrients but it's held up to every plant I've kept. I don't dose ferts and I only do water...

I've always used Eco-Complete, but that's going to get pretty pricey trying to scape a 125g. Any ideas on a good balance between cost and effectiveness?
