My 17 year old son recently sampled one of the spare 2L bottles that had been just swapped out, he thought it was lemonade, he could not run to the kitchen sink quickly enough.

Since it is on the back side of the tank/stand I would use composite shims available at most big box home improvement stores. They are usually located in the trim/door department.

Good luck

Either one would work well for your application. How will the tank be viewed/enjoyed most of the time sitting, standing, up close, etc.? I would suggest giving thought to how tall the stand should be...

"What is your HOB doing which your canister doesn't?"
Tends to increases evaporation and adds clutter to the aquarium setup.

Joetee - If the deck is 10'x10' and only supported around the perimeter with cinder blocks and/or 4x4s it probably would support the pool but would more than likely sag like a son of a gun. How about...

Very nice craftsmanship. Your stand is one of the few DIY stands that I have seen that are not grossly over engineered/built. Good use of materials.

Water changes

It appears as though most people with planted tanks weekly change out significantly more water than I do. It is not uncommon to see 50% listed by some. I on the other hand change out maybe 10-15%...
